BATON ROUGE - The 's-curves' on I-12 near Denham Springs should be gone in the next few weeks, something traffic management officials hope will cut back on accidents.

"The s-curves have obviously been something that's been an issue out there and we've been told by the contractors that the s-curves should not be needed in about three to four weeks," said Glen Graham with ABMB Engineers, a member of the Traffic Management Team.

The team also discussed ways to clear crashes quicker, including shutting down the interstate to bring in emergency vehicles faster.

Drivers say they can't wait to get rid of the 's-curves.'

"I think it's gonna be a lot safer and the trucks, instead of having to do the s-curve, they'll just have a straight away, and we'll be able to avoid all the accidents, hopefully," said Tristen Fletcher, who fights traffic on the interstate.

The Traffic Management Team meets quarterly and includes several agencies like the Louisiana State Police, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, local law enforcement, and fire and emergency medical services.
