International Star listed as early Louisiana Derby favorite
NEW ORLEANS - International Star, which is aiming to sweep all three Kentucky Derby prep races at the New Orleans Fair Grounds, has been listed as a 3-1 early favorite and placed in the ninth post for Saturday's $750,000, Grade 2 Louisiana Derby.
Trained by Mike Maker and ridden by jockey Miguel Mena, International Star has already won the $400,000, Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes in February and the $200,000, Grade 3 Lecomte Stakes in January.
In both victories, International Star rallied to beat War Story, a Tom Amoss-trained horse listed as one of two 4-1 second favorites in Wednesday's draw.
War Story will break from the sixth post.
Mr. Z, trained by D. Wayne Lucas and listed as the other second-favorite in the nine-horse field, has drawn the second post.
