BATON ROUGE - Mayor Kip Holden named Carl Dabadie to be the new chief of the Baton Rouge Police Department this morning.

Dabadie served as interim chief before today's announcement, and prior to that served as chief of staff to former Chief Dewayne White whom Holden fired in February.

Dabadie's experience includes 10 years in supervisory and command positions, as well as 16 years as a motorcycle officer in the traffic division. His father was also a BRPD motorcycle officer, and died in the line of duty.

Dabadie said one of his main goals as chief will be to unite members of the Baton Rouge City Police Department through accountability and collaborative problem-solving. He also plans to place special emphasis on building leaders and supervisors within the department.

"My vision is through communication and dialogue to have members of our department work closely with each member of our community and our community leaders in an initiative designed to bring our city back together," Dabadie said in a press release sent from the mayor's office.

News 2 will have more on the new police chief starting at noon.
