BATON ROUGE - State Police say motorists who notice their Motor Vehicle Inspection sticker is peeling or damaged should return it to have it replaced for free.

According to State Police, there was a problem with a batch of stickers from the state vendor a few months ago.

State Police say they are seeing the problem more recently since the stickers had not been returned to MVI stations, in addition to the summer heat.

The stickers can be exchanged at any Motor Vehicle Inspection station in your area, according to Louisiana State Police.

While Troopers say peeling stickers remain valid, and motorists shouldn’t attempt to glue, tape or alter in any way their MVI stickers. Replacement is not mandatory as long as the sticker remains visible, but State Police say replacement is recommended.

Inspection stations will be able to exchange any returned, defective stickers for new ones through the Office of Motor Vehicles.

Inspection station representatives with questions about replacing defective stickers are urged to contact OMV headquarters at (225) 925-6161. Motorists with issues relating to specific inspection stations can contact the Department of Public Safety MVI unit at (225) 925-6113 Ext: 205.
