Inmate escapes while on work release assignment

UPDATE: 3:45 p.m. - The suspect was recently arrested by U. S. Marshals at a home in Baton Rouge.
PORT ALLEN - Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped while on a work release detail.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office says Ernest Southerland, 33, walked away from his work assignment at Dixie Diamond in Port Allen this morning.
Southerland was serving time for burglary and as a felon in possession of a firearm.
