An inmate is dead after what authorities believe to have been a heart attack.
Authorities said 51-year-old Craig Tyrone Marshall, Houma, was pronounced dead around 10:17 this morning.
A correction officer found Marshall sleeping in an awkward position halfway on a sleeping mat and floor when conducting a routine check of the inmates at Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex. The officer went into Marshall’s cell and noticed he didn’t appear to be breathing. Medical staff was notified and checked Marshall, who had a light pulse but was not breathing.
The initial ruling from the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office is Marshall died from a heart attack, but toxicology results are pending.
Marshall was incarcerated for possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine and parole violation. His scheduled release date was Oct. 25, 2011.
