Initial jobless claims jump in Louisiana
BATON ROUGE - First-time claims for jobless benefits in Louisiana increase by over 250 during the week ending Nov. 20.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission says there were 4,293 of the newly unemployed seeking benefits. That's up from the previous week's total of 4,041.
For the comparable week ending Nov. 21, 2009, there were 5,432 first-time claims.
The state says there were 48,626 continued weeks of benefits claimed last week, up from 48,436 the previous week. A year ago, the unemployed in Louisiana claimed 61,502 additional weeks of jobless payments.
