LIVINGSTON - The trial involving a former Livingston Parish fire chief started with explosive testimony.

Franklin Dale Church faces multiple charges of indecent behavior with a minor. Investigators claim he sent text messages to a 13-year-old and sometimes met with her.

The trial started with relatives describing him as a man who consistently molested younger females in his family. She even went on to say he would touch her and even tried to have sex with her when she was just 16.

The mother of the 13-year-old also took the stand. She said she called police after she noticed strange texts coming from Church's phone.

Police who took the stand say they arrested Church after he tried to get the 13-year-old to meet him at a nearby park.

Police went to the park where they said they found Church in his work truck and arrested him. They said they also found an unwrapped condom, handcuffs, and cigarettes he had promised the 13-year-old.

The trial resumes Thursday at 9 a.m.
