CENTRAL - Improvements are coming to Greenwell Springs Road.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development conducted a road safety assessment of Greenwell Springs from Sullivan Road to HWY 409.

That 10-mile stretch of the road will get rumble strips, raised pavement makers, and restriping.

Already, construction crews are installing turn lanes along some sections of the highway.

"Greenwell Springs is an older road. It has been there for a little while and we have some obvious increased traffic out there. So, we want to make sure we meet the demands of that growing community," said Jodi Conachen, with DOTD.

Residents in the area are thrilled to see the changes.

"Central is growing leaps and bounds. Something has to be done. I'm glad they're finally getting something done," said Larry Watkins.

The state also plans to clear trees and bushes around the highway to make it more visible.

DOTD plans to start the improvements this summer.
