Illegal immigrant drivers put to vote
PORTLAND, OREGON- Some people in Oregon were successful in blocking a new law that allowed illegal immigrants to get driver's licenses and instead passed a measure to allow voters to decide the issue in November.
Seven other states allow it.
Oregonians for Immigration Reform says the state should not encourage illegal immigration.
The law would have allowed immigrants to apply for a drivers' cards but couldn't use them to vote, board a plane, get benefits or buy guns.
It will be the first time voters in any state get a say on the issue.
The group got enough signatures to stop the law and put the measure before before the people to decide if they want to void the law.
