PRAIRIEVILLE - Deputies in Ascension Parish arrested a man following a rape investigation involving a 72-year-old victim.

Elmer Alexander Esquivel Ramos, 33, is charged with aggravated rape and second-degree battery. Ramos is an illegal alien, according to Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff WIley.

Deputies say Ramos was staying at a couple's home in Prairieville when he attacked the victim in the middle of the night.

After the victim was raped and beaten, investigators say the victim managed to flee the bedroom and alert the homeowners of what occurred.

Ramos was booked into the the Ascension Parish jail without bond. U. S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents have also placed a hold on Ramos due to his illegal citizenship in the U.S.
