Ice bandits arrested after attack in Livingston Parish
LIVINGSTON - Sheriff's deputies in Livingston Parish said two men confessed to beating an elderly man and stealing ice and cash from him.
Chief Deputy Jason Ard said Cody Powell, 18, and Glenn Castle, 23, were arrested after investigators located a truck witnesses said was used in the crime.
Deputies were called to a Springfield home Monday where they found a 74-year-old man who sold ice to people at Tickfaw State Park had been beaten and robbed. Investigators said the men stole about $120 in cash and several bags of ice before fleeing the scene in a white pickup.
Deputies later spotted the pickup near a residence on Barnum Road, and said they found the two men hiding in a closet. Ard said they also found some of the stolen cash, 13 doses of Clonazepam under a mattress and two bags of ice in a nearby ditch.
Ard said both men confessed to the crime, and were booked into the Livingston Parish jail.
