I-12 finally reopens early Tuesday morning
WALKER - I-12 closed shortly after 10 p.m. Monday for the second time to allow crews to continue their attempts to clear a wrecked semi from the side of the Interstate.
All westbound lanes between Satsuma and Walker were closed overnight. Traffic was diverted off I-12 at the Livingston/La. 63 exit to Highway 190 then to Highway 447 where traffic was allowed to get back on I-12 West.
Traffic officials expected the closure to last about two hours. It ended up remaining closed until just before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, but was still cleared before the morning rush hour.
The semi wrecked e Monday morning into a patch of trees along the side of I-12. As crews tried to remove the mess, an axle broke on the cab of the tractor-trailer, exacerbating the clearing efforts.
I-12 was backed up for miles and there was heavy congestion on Highway 190 throughout the day Monday.
