I-10W snarled after road work, wrecks
PORT ALLEN - A wreck and road work on I-10 near Port Allen snarled westbound traffic Thursday morning for hours, and could cause problems during the afternoon rush.
The Department of Transportation and Development said the wreck happened past LA-415 on I-10 West after 8 a.m. It blocked the right lane, allowing traffic to pass through in the left lane only.
This happened about an hour after DOTD closed the right lane in the same area for emergency road maintenance. DOTD reopened the right lane at the wreck site around 10:30 a.m., then at the maintenance site shortly after.
Just after noon DOTD said traffic stretched back from the Mississippi River Bridge to Bluebonnet Boulevard in East Baton Rouge Parish. Some drivers on social media said they'd been sitting in the snarl for more than two hours.
Drivers can use US 190 as an alternate route to avoid the congestion.
