KENNER - State police have reopened Interstate 10 westbound near the Bonnet Carre Spillway as they continue their investigation into a fatal crash.

Trooper Melissa Matey says two people died in the three vehicle accident early Friday morning.

Matey says a car hit the left guardrail, spun around and stopped facing oncoming traffic in the left lane.

She says a car-carrying 18-wheeler stopped in front of it to make sure no other vehicles hit the car.

Matey says a street sweeper traveling at a high rate of speed then hit the rear of the 18-wheeler.

The driver and passenger in the street sweeper were killed.

Troopers have not released the names of the victims.
