Hwy. 190 bridge demolished

The old westbound span of the Hwy. 190 bridge over the Amite River was demolished this morning near Denham Springs.

State Police used a controlled detonation of explosives along the bridge supports to bring it down.

A crane will remove the pieces from the river.

The bridge was demolished so crews can start work on the new eastbound span.

The $30 million replacement project is scheduled to be complete in December 2010.
