Hundreds lose power during afternoon storms
BATON ROUGE - Utility companies reported hundreds of people lost power as strong weather moved through southern Louisiana Monday afternoon and evening.
Entergy reported more than 8,800 people in the state lost power, including 1,100 customers in East Baton Rouge Parish, more than 1,100 in St. Helena Parish, and nearly 1,000 in Tangipahoa Parish.
DEMCO reported only a few dozen outages in Livingston, West Feliciana and Ascension parishes.
Forecasters predicted hail may be a factor in tonight's storms, along with damaging winds and strong rain. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Baton Rouge area until 9 p.m., and a flood advisory for the same area until 6:45 p.m.
