GONZALES- In Ascension Parish, hundreds filled Veterans Park in Gonzales to pay respect to men and women who died while serving in the armed forces.

American flags lined the park and wreaths and flowers were placed at monuments.
There was patriotic songs and speeches at the program that concluded with a 21 gun salute and taps.
Organizers say this program is all about showing appreciation.
"Thank you for your service, and for the fact that the people of this country are enjoying the freedom they have because of what you gave," said Jack Watson.
