Tips to spot, stop child abuse
BATON ROUGE - A day after two parents were arrested for child cruelty, state leaders want you to know about a tool that can help prevent child abuse.
The Department of Children and Family Services offers a 24/7 hotline that you can call when you suspect abuse, 1-855-4-LA-KIDS.
"We receive reports everyday and some of those reports are valid and others are not valid and so what we have to do is look at every call individually, no one case is alike," said Trey Williams with DCFS.
A new law that went into effect last week makes it illegal to not report sexual abuse, rape or murder of a child. DCFS says, even if you're not sure what's happening it's better to let them investigate.
"Those types of decisions by not sharing that information you really put the child in danger," said Williams.
