Houston rallies to beat LSU 5-4, teams will play tonight for Super Regional
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Kyle Survance's RBI single in the 11th inning led Houston to a 5-4 win over LSU on Sunday to force a deciding game in the Baton Rouge regional.
Houston (47-16) and LSU (46-15-1) will play Monday night, with the winner advancing to the super regionals.
With two outs in the 11th, Josh Vidales singled. After Michael Pyeatt's double put runners at second and third, Survance lined an RBI single into left field, giving the Cougars the victory.
With LSU leading 1-0 in the seventh, Connor Hale led off with a single and Tyler Moore followed with a base hit that rolled into foul territory in the right-field corner and lodged under an outfield door. Survance, the right fielder, put his hands up to signal the ball was unplayable. However, first base umpire Adam Dowdy ruled the ball was playable, giving Moore a two-run homer. Houston coach Todd Whitting argued the call and filed a formal protest. Alex Bregman added an RBI double in the inning to extend the lead to 4-0.
Houston immediately answered with four runs in top of the eighth inning to tie it.
