House bill eliminates statewide breakaway vote
BATON ROUGE - The House Education Committee approved a bill that would no longer require a statewide vote in order to form a breakaway school district.
The bill would only require people to vote if they lived within the proposed district or lived in the boundaries of the existing district it was trying to break away from.
The proposal drew a big crowd to the Capitol since it could impact the planned breakaways within the East Baton Rouge school district.
News 2's Mike Steele is at the Capitol following the story. He has the full story tonight beginning on News 2 at 5pm.
