Hotel shooting: 1 dead, 1 critically wounded
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans police say one man is dead and another critically wounded after a shooting in a Canal Street hotel room.
Officer Frank Robertson says investigators believe the dead man may have shot himself, but have not confirmed that.
He says the shooting was reported about 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the Westin Hotel, in a room occupied by four men.
Robertson says hotel staff let officers into the 17th-floor room, where a man pointed a gun at them.
The officers returned to the hall and called the SWAT team. Robertson says that after hours of negotiations, the SWAT team broke down the door about 9:30 a.m. They found one man dead and another shot in the chest.
Robertson says all four were from out of town, possibly the Lafayette area.
