Cold weather in Baton Rouge is not popular for some. As noted in a previous column, International Falls holds its position as the official "Icebox of the Nation." A battle for bragging rights as to which town is the coldest continues as Fraser, Idaho was attempting to grab the title. Jerry Thompson and his wife Lois sent a note noting that they have visited numerous chilly spots in the United States and chose Stanley, Idaho that also laid claim to the coldest spot. Stanley posted the chilliest days since 1995. Jerry notes that in early September the Salmon River is packed with Texans, dry-camping. He experienced temperatures hovering around 36 degrees and the town is a destination place for hunting and fishing, not far from the Lewis and Clark trail.
