Hornets donate jet for BRCC aviation program
BATON ROUGE - A "big" donation from the New Orleans Hornets will help new avionics students in Baton Rouge.
Today the New Orleans Hornets donated a Boeing 727 jet to the Baton Rouge Community College for its new Aviation program.
"This is a tremendous gift," BRCC Chancellor Myrtle E. B. Dorsey said. "We are deeply grateful to the New Orleans Hornets for their contribution toward our work to expand the educational opportunities available to our students."
BRCC is still getting the proper permits from the Federal Aviation Administration for its Airframe and Power Plant Maintenance programs.
With the donation, students will now have an actual jet to learn with as they get licensed to do maintenance on aircraft and get them prepared to go back into service.
BRCC's Aviation program is projected to begin in the 2012 fall semester.
