
Southern's hopes for perfection in conference were dashed tonight. The Jags fell 22-14 to Jackson State in Veterans Memorial in Jackson, MS. After a scoreless first quarter, The Jaguars finally got on the board first with 12:10 to go before half. Bryant Lee found Warren Matthews for a 37 yard TD pass. 7-0 SU. Jackson State responded before half with a 43 yd Eric Perri field goal. After half, Jackson State found then end zone. Luther Edwards capped off a 13-play 72 yard drive with a 5 yard touchdown run. The Tigers took their first lead of the night 10-7. Warren Matthews connected with Curry Allen a 39 yard touchdown pass. The Jags retook the lead 14-10. Jackson State answered with a 38 yard field goal, 14-13 Jags. JSU's Eric Perri hit another field goal to give JSU the lead this time a 43 yarder that gave 16-14 with 3 minutes to go. The Jags couldn't manage another fourth quarter comeback. Bryant Lee threw an interception and Bloi-De Dorzone capitalized with a 9 yard touchdown run. JSU 22-14. The Jags will have the week off before homecoming.
