Homicide rate down in East Baton Rouge Parish
BATON ROUGE - The number of killings in East Baton Rouge Parish is down nearly 40 percent from a year ago.
The Advocate says police have reported 43 homicides through the end of August, compared to 70 a year ago.
Louisiana State University criminologist calls the drop huge. He credits cooperation among agencies and the Baton Rouge Area Violence Elimination project, which uses data to focus on gangs and violent neighborhoods.
Dr. Beau Clark, the parish coroner, credits doctors and nurses as well as law enforcement. He says emergency room staffs save many people who are shot.
