A homeowner in East Feliciana Parish believes a lack of manpower at the volunteer fire department contributed to flames causing extensive damage to her home this month.
Her house is less than a block away from the Wilson Fire Department.
"The most upsetting thing is the volunteer fire department is practically across the street," Nikki Norris said. "I don't beleive we would have lost as much if we had more volunteers here."
Eunice Smiley is an Alderwoman in Wilson.
"We have plenty of equipment, but we're always asking for volunteers," Smiley said.
Currently, the Wilson Fire Department has 19 volunteers. Most of them have full time jobs which means the fire station is not manned around the clock.
The pinch for man power is pushing the Norris family to ask volunteers to step up.
The Norris's didn't have insurance. A fundraiser is being held at "Thurston Watts" in Zachary on Jan. 16, 2010. You can purchase tickets there if you would like to help.
