Victim recalls late-night home invasion
ST. AMANT- A woman on Church Point Road is counting her blessings after an intruder held her at gunpoint and made off with cash last Friday night.
The woman, who did not want to be identified, was watching TV with her husband asleep in the next room when she heard a knock at the door.
"I was just in my gown and I came around. He said, 'I just need to use your phone I've got a flat,' so stupid me, I let him in," said the victim.
Once he was inside the man pulled a gun and demanded cash.
"I was half crying and he said 'Don't cry lady, don't cry I'm not going to hurt you.' He made me dump my purse and got the cash I had and after all that he said, 'Go into the bathroom until I leave,' and that's what I did and then he left," said the woman.
Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley says there's a better way to help someone out in a similar situation and avoid the risk.
"The easiest, best thing to do would be to dial those three numbers, get on the phone and call 911, at no time should anyone allow a total stranger in their home after dark," said Sheriff Wiley.
The woman said the man stole cash and coins from her.
"Well if he's using it to buy drugs, I hope the drugs that he takes kills him," she said.
Ascension Parish is still looking for the suspect, if you have info that can help contact deputies.
