Home burglarized, intentionally set on fire
BATON ROUGE - Fire investigators say a house was intentionally set on fire to cover up a crime scene.
The house in the 5100 block of Sycamore Street is a total loss. The fire was contained to the bedroom, but the rest of the home received smoke and heat damage.
The man who called for help, says he heard the windows pop.
"I thought somebody was in the house or something," said Errol Jackson. "It sounded like someone was fighting."
Police say the home was likely burglarized, but it's too early to tell what, if anything, was stolen because of the damage.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire, but were notified. They are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Police have no suspects at this time.
