Holden teen drowns overnight

The body of Dylan Herring, 17, of 31649 Hwy 1036 Holden, LA., was recovered from the Amite River at 10:15 p.m. after a three hour search effort.

According to Chief Deputy Tony Bacala, Herring was attending a party at 17266 Summerfield Rd., in Ascension Parish near Port Vincent.  It was reported that he was attempting to swim across the River and went under about 50 yards from the opposite shore.

The Sheriff's Office was notified at 7:10 p.m., shortly after Herring disappeared under the water and recovery efforts were conducted by Sheriff's Office, Wildlife and Fisheries and Fire Department search and rescue teams.
