The victim of a deadly hit-and-run on I-10 in Baton Rouge has been identified.

Police say 20-year-old Mikel Cara Carson of Hammond was hit Sunday morning as she was walking along I-10 East near College Drive.

Investigators say an officer found an abandoned vehicle belonging to Carson on I-10 several hours before her body was found. They say the car was on the inside shoulder of the interstate partially blocking traffic.

Investigators believe Carson abandoned her car due to mechanical problems. It's unclear whether she was going to her vehicle or walking away from it when she was hit.

Carson was found lying in the shoulder of I-10, surrounded by debris from a vehicle.

Police believe she was hit by a green and beige Ford Expedition King Ranch Edition or pickup truck, made between 2005 and 2007.
