Hit-and-run victim accused in burglary
LIVINGSTON - Deputies have arrested a hit-and-run victim in suspicion of breaking into a Watson woman's home and trying to steal her purse, just after he was released from the hospital.
Livingston Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested Justin Beck, 17, after they said he broke into a woman's home Sunday night, took her purse and tried to flee on foot.
Deputies said Beck ran into the victim's mother-in-law and husband as he tried to flee, and they were able to get the purse away from him. Beck fled into the nearby woods, which deputies searched but weren't able to find him.
However, as soon as investigators left the area they said Beck came out of the woods and was captured by the victim's husband.
Chief Deputy Jason Ard said Beck told deputies he didn't know why he stole the purse, and that he'd been recently released from the hospital. Ard said Beck had been run over Friday while pushing his bike along Highway 16 near Watson, and that the driver fled. A suspect in that case was arrested Saturday.
Beck was charged with a count of simple burglary and booked into the parish jail.
