Highway to close while railroad replaces ties
DONALDSONVILLE - A stretch of Louisiana Highway 1 running under the Union Pacific Railroad overpass near Bayou Lafourche will be closed at times over a two-week period starting on Tuesday.
Union Pacific is replacing railroad ties as part of standard maintenance on the overpass.
The road will be closed from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily from Sept. 3 to Sept. 5 and again from Sept. 9 to Sept. 12, state Department of Transportation and Development say.
Railroad spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza says track crew works four days per week, 10 hours per day, so the closure was split over a two-week period.
