ABEN - Residents in the small community of Aben just outside Donaldsonville are dealing with high water for a second-straight day.
Thursday flood waters stood as high as the front step to many homes. Residents say water rose to nearly four inches inside their homes Wednesday after heavy rains. People rushed to pick up belongings off the floor, but the water entered to fast to avoid damage.
"Yesterday I was heartbroken because we've been back here for 46 years and we've always had flood waters, but it was never to this extent and it has never came into the home," said Sandra Francois.
While the high water seemed to stand still at a knee-deep level, people in Aben are hoping for sunshine. More rain would mean more water inside homes.
"At this time if it were to rain some more I would leave the home, because it's not nice waking up and putting your feet in water. You can't use your bathroom, so it would be very devastating," said Francois.
Other residents we spoke with were at a loss for words for how high the water has gotten in their small community.
