SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - The Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission has been awarded the 2016-17 Louisiana High School Athletic Association state wrestling championships.

The LHSAA executive committee voted 13-5-2 on Wednesday in favor of the commission's bid to host the event at the CenturyLink Center (14,000 seats) during the next two Februarys.

The Times reports (http://bit.ly/1ErOY7K ) the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner (3,600 seats), which hosted the event the past two seasons, and the River Center in Baton Rouge (8,900 permanent seats) also submitted bids.

SBSC vice president Kelly Wells says the 2012 championships in Bossier City attracted a then-record 12,000 attendees, although an estimated 14,000 attended the recently concluded championships.

Airline High would be the host school locally.
