BATON ROUGE – After a short time-out, the Louisiana high school football playoffs will once again be split.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association said Wednesday's committee has ratified the select/non-select school split for high school football playoffs. This comes after the system was found to have been unconstitutionally implemented in early January.

The split was first put into play after a 2013 vote by the association's membership. However, the move to split was not suggested by the LHSAA Executive Committee, which was a violation of the group's Constitution.  The error was discovered earlier this month and the split was immediately revoked.

If the committee did not ratify the split system during the organization's annual convention, the 2016 football playoffs would have returned to the traditional postseason setup of Classes 1A through 5A.
