WASHINGTON - Hundreds of people are gathered in front of the Supreme Court, hoping to be in the courtroom when the justices take up affirmative action today. Among them is The Rev. Jesse Jackson.
The court will hear arguments over a University of Texas program that uses race as a factor in a quarter of its incoming classes.
Opponents say the university is practicing illegal discrimination by considering race at all. The case could produce new limits on affirmative action at universities, or roll it back entirely.
