PLATTE CITY, MISSOURI- A high school football player is charged with assault for ripping off another player's helmet and beating him in the head with it.

The player hit suffered a concussion and the prosecutor says he still suffers symptoms a month later.

Authorities say 17-year-old Colin Byrd of Platte County High School and the other player were headed out of bounds when they fell.

A game official says Byrd twisted the other player's helmet off and struck him in the head with it.

The game was against Winnetonka High School October 18.
