Heavy rains suspend search for missing Denham Springs boater
GRAND RIVER - Search and rescue crews in Iberville Parish for a missing boater from Denham Springs have been suspended for the day to heavy rains that came through the area earlier this afternoon.
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents, along with Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office deputies, started the search of the Upper Grand River for 61-year-old James Haley around 10:30 p.m. on May 1.
The suspended search is expected to resume Tuesday morning at 8 a.m., according to the IPSO.
Eyewitnesses said Haley stepped off a houseboat and slipped while he was trying to get back into his boat. The man fell into the water and surfaced twice before he disappeared.
Search crews looked for Haley until 3 a.m. Friday night before they resumed the search at daybreak Saturday morning using dredges, sonar and side scan technology.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office Dive Team and volunteers with their own vessels have aided in the search, which has been active each day since the Denham Springs man went missing.
