Heavy rain affects traffic, outages reported
BATON ROUGE - Heavy downpours moving through East Baton Rouge Parish are affecting some people's drive home, and knocked out power to thousands.
The Department of Transportation and Development said at 5:40 p.m. that high water was blocking the right and center lanes of I-110 South at Capitol Access. Then 15 minutes later, a wreck in the northbound lanes at that same location blocked the left lane.
Police also responded to reports of lightning striking at least one home in the parish as the storm moved through. According to Entergy's website, more than 1,800 people in East Baton Rouge Parish lost power as the storm moved through. Livingston Parish also reported more than 1,100 outages.
