PORT ALLEN - Attorneys defending the West Baton Rouge woman accused of hiring a hit man to kill her husband say the prosecution's star witness is getting special treatment to testify against Monique Kitts and accused gunman Karl Howard.

Kitts is accused of hiring Howard to kill her husband, Corey Kitts, in Addis four years ago. Police said the victim was shot in the head three times while he was sleeping.

The star witness, accused getaway driver Corey Knox, has not yet taken the stand. Up until last week Knox was set to be part of the trial, but on Oct. 20 the prosecution offered to reduce the charges against Knox if he were to testify against Kitts and Howard.

"Not only his testimony, but the hole global aspect of this case will be pieced together," said lead prosecutor Tony Clayton. "You will find at the conclusion that the evidence shows that Monique Kitts and Carl Howard were involved in the death of Corey Kitts, her husband."

Knox was supposed to testify today, but Clayton said there wasn't time to fit his testimony in after three other witnesses testified. One witness, David Johnson, claimed Monique Kitts was one of his lovers and paid him to find a hit man for her. A second witness testified Johnson gave him $500 as well as a map to the Kitts home and a copy of Corey Kitts' work schedule, but said he didn't have anything to do with the killing because it was too little money.

The defense is still confident in their case, and say Monique Kitts loved her husband and didn't kill him. The trail will continue Thursday at 9 a.m.
