BATON ROUGE - The man accused of attacking a family at a Baton Rouge gas station on Mother's Day is scheduled to be in court his morning.
A pre-trial hearing to consider motions is scheduled for Donald Dickerson, 41, who faces accusations of second degree battery and failing to register as a sex offender.
Police arrested Dickerson in May after they say he attacked a family on Scenic Hwy. He reportedly told the victims, who were white, that they were "in the wrong neighborhood."
At the time of the arrest, Dickerson had been recently released from prison for purse snatching, carnal knowledge of a juvenile and armed robbery.
The District Attorney's office plans to try Dickerson as a habitual offender instead of pursuing hate crime charges. If convicted, he could serve a life sentence.
