New Orleans voters are getting ready to make their choice for a new mayor.
Saturday's election takes place amid the annual hoopla of Carnival season and the added jubilation of the Saints' first-ever Super Bowl appearance.
Those happy distractions lately have overshadowed the city's lingering troubles, including deadly crime and an uneven recovery from Hurricane Katrina.
Louisiana Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu is widely seen as the leader of an 11-candidate pack hoping to succeed term-limited incumbent Ray Nagin.
Other well-known contenders include businessman John Georges, who has lent his campaign more than $3 million; businessman Troy Henry, attorney Rob Couhig; housing consultant James Perry; and
former Judge Nadine Ramsey.
