Woman killed in NO shooting was studying to be nurse
NEW ORLEANS - Authorities confirmed a 21-year-old Hammond woman died as a result of injuries from a shooting this past weekend on Bourbon Street.
The New Orleans coroner said Brittany Thomas was taken off life support and died. She was one of 10 people injured in the shooting Sunday in New Orleans.
Thomas' family members said she was attending Camelot College in Baton Rouge, studying to be a nurse.
"She was an amazing person," said her sister, Marikeshia Thomas. "She was a dancer, cheerleader... she was suppose to graduate in August."
Officials reported three other people were in stable condition: a 35-year-old man from Mississippi, a 19-year-old Arkansas woman and an 18-year-old New Orleans man. LSU Interim Hospital spokeswoman Siona LaFrance said Wednesday a 21-year-old Australian woman was released from the hospital. Other victims, not hospitalized, included two New Orleans-area men; a teenage girl and a woman from Alabama; and a Florida man.
No arrests have been made, and New Orleans Police identified a man wanted for questioning in connection with the shooting Wednesday. Police asked for the public's help locating 20-year-old Justin Odom, and an associate of his named Josh or Joe.
Investigators said Odom was identified off photos released earlier this week. They asked anyone else with photos or video from the scene to contact them at (504) 658-6080.
