Kim Bowman, 32, vanished two weeks ago. Her body was found in her burned vehicle with a gun shot wound about 60 miles from home.
"She left to go to the store from her home in Hammond and never came back," her sister, Kellie, told WWL TV in New Orleans. WWL and WBRZ TV/WBRZ.com have a news gathering partnership.
Bowman was found dead in the burned ruins of her vehicle on Desire Parkway in New Orleans.
Police are asking people to call them with tips about what may have happened.
