Hammond council considers Sunday alcohol sales in bars
HAMMOND, La. - Bars will be allowed to open and serve alcohol on Sundays if the Hammond City Council adopts an ordinance introduced by Councilman Lemar Marshall on Tuesday.
The Daily Star reports Marshall's proposal would let bars operate at the same hours as restaurants with bars are allowed to sell alcohol. On Sundays, that would be from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m.
Council members Jason Hood and Janice Carter Beard voted against introducing the ordinance to a public hearing, but Mike Williams, Johnny Blount and Marshall passed it through.
Williams said he supported the introduction of the ordinance to give the public a chance to speak out on allowing bars to open on Sunday.
