HAMMOND - The Hammond City Council will submit to the city's voters eight proposed changes to the home rule charter.
The council approved a companion resolution Tuesday that sets the vote on the proposed charter changes for Nov. 6.
The proposed changes were submitted to the council by a group of citizens who spent about a year studying the charter.
If approved by a majority of the voters some of the changes include: council members would be allowed to serve three consecutive terms instead of two, the council president would be paid an additional $500 monthly, and if the mayor is unable to serve, the director of administration would be named temporary mayor.
