Man charged with rape, kidnapping after police shootout
HAMMOND - A man accused of raping kidnapping two women and raping on of them near Hammond was shot and wounded by Hammond Police early this morning, according to sources.
Police said Durelle Jones, 24, was taken to a hospital after exchanging gunfire with two Hammond Police Officers. It happened after police confronted him outside a convenience store.
Jones is accused of kidnapping two women and raping one of them before taking them to LaPlace, where one of the women was able to attract attention.
"They said he invaded their home, and took their car," said Lt. Vince Giannoble with Hammond Police. "Somewhere between here and LaPlace he raped one of the females."
Jones will be booked for rape, kidnapping and robbery when he recovers.
