BATON ROUGE - Investigators have identified the suspect shot during a deputy involved shooting Tuesday afternoon.

George Michael Pikes, 23, was charged with distribution of heroin, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer and two counts of criminal damage to property. More charges could be coming.

Around 1:30 p.m., Pikes was shot in the left arm and was transported from the scene. EMS said that the 23-year-old man is in stable condition and has non-life threatening injuries.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, the shooting stemmed from a traffic stop in reference to a narcotics investigation. The shooting took place following the traffic stop near a poboy shop on Airline Highway at the corner of Prescott Road. No deputies were injured in the shooting.

EBRSO officials said that as a part of the narcotics investigation, undercover officers were able to make a controlled buy of heroin from the suspect.

According to EBRSO, charges are pending for distribution of heroin along with other charges in regards to the shooting.

The Louisiana State Police are now investigating the deputy-involved shooting, as it is the typical protocol followed in officer-involved shooting situations.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
