PORT ALLEN - West Baton Rouge Parish President Riley Berthelot Jr. presented the Parish Council with a $54.5 million spending plan for 2013 that reflects a 0.5 percent gain over the 2012 budget.
Berthelot told council members the modest budget increase is due to a 4 percent increase in sales tax collections and a 2.5 percent increase in property taxes.
Tax revenues during 2012 are projected to be more than $29 million, but Berthelot said it was best to be conservative with the budget.
Berthelot says some of the increased tax collections are due to one-time revenue from large construction projects at the Port of Baton Rouge.
